Here at MaryRuth’s, our company enjoys a monthly “fun lunch” together — virtually, of course! 

 

We recently had an educational, inspirational, and FUN lunch together learning more about Filipino culture through some of our team members in the Philippines. As a part of this lunch, employees had the option to cook a popular Filipino dish — champorado!

 

Champorado is a tasty, chocolatey rice pudding often enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack. With a rich, smooth texture, this dish typically includes ingredients like glutinous or sticky rice, sugar, and condensed milk. We’ve updated the recipe just a bit for our sugar-free, dairy-free, and vegan friends, so this recipe can fit into many lifestyles!

Vegan & Sugar-Free Champorado Recipe

An updated twist on this traditional Filipino rice porridge with wellness support! 

 

Ingredients

 

Instructions

  1. Pour water into a cooking pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Put in the cocoa powder and stir. Let it dissolve in boiling water.
  3. Add in the rice and let the water re-boil. Set the heat to low-medium and stir almost constantly to avoid sticking. The rice should be ready when it absorbs the water (about 15-25 minutes).
  4. Add the monkfruit crystals and stir until they dissolve.
  5. Transfer the champorado into individual bowls and top with condensed milk.
