Tips to Workout & Move Your Body 30 Minutes Per Day

From MaryRuth’s observations while working one-on-one as a nutritional consultant, she created The Art of Health for Busy People (which was also the basis of her book, Liquids Till Lunch). These 12 actions encompass the patterns that typically healthy people incorporate into their everyday lives. One of these 12 actions that we'd like to focus on here is to exercise for 30 minutes, every day!


Supporting your health shouldn’t feel overwhelming or unattainable, and we promise that you can find 30 minutes — 2% of your day — to move your body around and do something good for yourself!

(Pro tip: Try time blocking to set aside time to move your body and to do other things that you love).


Find a Time That Works Best for You

 

MaryRuth has a saying, structure creates freedom, which means that through having the structure to get things accomplished you want to get done, you will find freedom. If you find a time that works for you to get in your workout every day, you can stick to that time and truly make 30 minutes of exercise a priority in your day!


Some people love to get their workout done first thing in the morning after waking up, which is great to ensure that you won’t forget or run out of time later to get your sweat on. But, some people don’t like waking up earlier to get in their workout — and that’s ok, too! You can even break up your workout into three different 10-minute long chunks of time if that’s all you find time for some days.


As long as you know what time to do your workout will work best in your particular day and schedule, and make sure that you stick to it, you’ll make working out a regular part of your daily routine.

Find a Workout That You Enjoy

Walk/Jog/Run

Going for a simple walk, or working your way up to a jog or run is one of the easiest (and free!) ways to move your body! While you can opt to do this on a treadmill at home or at the gym, there is nothing like the good ol’ outdoors (and you can use this time to get your 15 minutes of direct sunlight on your face, too!).


If you live somewhere with great outdoor spaces, you can turn your walk into a hike through a beautiful area nearby.

 

Group Fitness

There are so many choices when it comes to group fitness classes now. From kickboxing to yoga to CrossFit or barre classes and everything in between, there are group workout classes for almost any type of exercise. If being around others helps get you pumped up, then these might be a good option for you! Some great apps even exist to help you discover local classes in your area.

 

HIIT Workouts

HIIT, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training, is a great type of workout to do if you want to burn more calories in a shorter period of time. With this type of workout, you’ll do intense anaerobic activity for a short period of time, followed by a small break for a shorter amount of time, and repeat multiple rounds.


You can most likely find some great combinations of HIIT workouts online to do on your own at home, even with just your own bodyweight! All you need is a stopwatch and an area to get your workout done.

 

Dancing

Put on some tunes and get moving to your own beat, or try to find a dance workout online or through a studio for some fun! Lots of dance classes are available — from Zumba to line dancing, and you can discover some great moves through any of them that will get your muscles moving.

 

Bicycling

Taking a bike ride doesn’t always mean that you have to leave your house nowadays. With all the types of regular and stationary bikes and programs on the market, you can go bicycling either in the great outdoors or in the comfort of your own home!

 

With all the types of exercise available to try out, you can mix and match to create a workout routine that you are excited to do! What works for someone else may not work for you, so make sure that you try new things until you find something that helps to “stick” in your day-to-day life.


Get Moving & Support Your Health

When you have enough structure in your daily routine, and you do your best to incorporate 30 minutes of exercise into that routine, you’ll start feeling better and more energized by getting your heart rate increased for a part of each day. No matter how busy you are, we hope that you enjoy taking this half an hour for yourself, your mind, and your body to reset and feel amazing.
